mmm im not really that clued up on jap back technicallities,, but i would hazard a guess at it being completely fooked mate,, :thud Sorry mouse but i think you need to get it in a shop where they can sort it out, it may be expensive but after you keep buying bits & messing about the cost may be more than gettin in sorted out at a reputable workshop mate,

Maybe it just doesn't want to go out in the cold?

I know I don't!

Mouse,

You know that I'm a time served mechanic and I've worked on lots of these FZR's.

The thing with them is that it's just a temp thing. Theres a sensor underneath the tank, just where it meets the seat. Its a solid state part and will never need replacing and it's built into the frame (so you cant actually see it).

Basically its a safeguard against the bike being started in sub zero temperatures in case there was no anti-freeze in the system. Of course in Japan they dont get really bad weather so the pre 93 bikes were actually set at -2 c.  Good for them but not too good for us in the UK.

Good news is this is really common and there are 2 simple fixes. You can get a heated tankpad, switch it on for 60 secs and that will bring the sensor up to temperature and the bike will fire first time, no probs. Alternatively (and this is what a mate of mine does religiously) just stick a hot water bottle on the seat (right where it joins the tank) and the sensor wont ever get close to -2c.

Hope this helps, I would go with the heated tankpad as they're neat and will also keep your crown jewels warm on the ride ;)

Afraid so Steph, Im sure Ive mentioned this to you before????

Heated tankpad is the best bed, really easy to fit as the wires that come out of the bottom are only inches from the battery. They just clip on with crocodile clips.
